We’re proud to provide Ozone Therapy at the Integrative Veterinary Center of Richmond. This therapy provides oxygen to assist mitochondria in running more efficiently and effectively, thereby supporting most complementary therapies. Inflammation in a tissue often leads to increased CO2, and adding oxygen can help promote healing. Ozone enhances our ability to help animals heal from infections, Lyme disease, pancreatitis, inflammation, cancer, and joint pain.
Ozone (O3) is an energized form of oxygen that contains three atoms of oxygen rather than the two atoms that are present in the air we breathe. Ozone is the second most powerful sterilizer in the world and can destroy bacteria and viruses. When healthy, the body can eliminate toxins that would otherwise accumulate to harmful levels through oxidation. Oxidation is the process wherein a substance changes due to the effects of oxygen upon it. Oxidation breaks the toxins down into carbon dioxide and water and eliminates them from the body. However, if the necessary oxygen is unavailable, our bodies cannot eliminate these toxins adequately, and a toxic reaction can occur. In minor cases, a toxic buildup can lead to fatigue, while a wide range of diseases can result when poor oxygenation is chronic.
