Pet Thermography

We are very excited to announce that our Thermal Imaging Scanner is up and running at the Integrative Veterinary Center of Richmond in the Richmond Specialty Building. Digital Thermal Imaging is a diagnostic tool that measures radiated energy, allowing us to evaluate changes in temperature of 1/2 degree celsius or more conducted to the body’s surface. After visualizing inflammation or lack of circulation, further diagnostics and treatments can be targeted more precisely for an improved outcome.

Thermography quickly demonstrates primary, compensatory, and tertiary inflammation through noninvasive means of evaluating the blood supply to an injured region. This physiologic evaluation is an adjunct to clinical examination and complementary to other diagnostic imaging techniques such as radiology, ultrasonography, and MRI. It detects heat before it is perceptible during the routine physical examination and thus is helpful for the early detection of OA, disc disease, and stress injuries, and will even register some neoplastic processes. Areas of focus can be seen before they manifest as disease or loss of mobility.

At IVC, we routinely use this modality to identify areas of inflammation or neurological dysfunction better and visualize the changes in circulation immediately following our treatments. If you have any questions about our new Digital Thermal Imager, or you have a patient that you feel may benefit from it as a diagnostic tool, please feel free to contact us today!
